Children's Piano Lessons - South Pasadena Strings Program

Piano and KinderPiano®

Our piano program serves students at all levels, from ages 3 to adult. A large staff of skilled piano teachers enables us to make the best match for each student’s needs, interests and personality. Students at every level are encouraged to participate in our monthly recitals. Some students may choose to enter the ‘Certificate of Merit’ program, which systematically develops technique, ear training, sight reading, performance skills, and understanding of music theory, taught by certified teachers.

KinderPiano® Tots

Our KinderPiano® classes are great ways for the youngest children to begin musical studies and be introduced to the piano. KinderPiano® Tots is for ages 3 ½ to 4 ½. Preschoolers enjoy learning basic piano skills, including listening, rhythm, form, and simple note-reading. Each child sits at their own keyboard during class. Parents sit alongside their children. This five-session class teaches good practice habits through positive reinforcement (including plenty of stickers and prizes!). Low-cost keyboard rentals are available for home use.

KinderPiano® “for little fingers”

KinderPiano® individual or group instruction is designed for preschoolers through first graders. The program makes learning the piano easy and fun! In the first lesson, children are introduced to Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear, and begin playing immediately. Each child sits at their own keyboard during class. Through gentle reinforcement and encouragement (including stickers and prizes), students learn the basics of note-reading, rhythm and dynamics, along with correct seating, and hand and finger positions. Students also learn to play from memory, and will be encouraged to participate in recitals. Low-cost keyboard rentals for home use are available.

Recitals:Our recitals take place every month, on a Saturday evening, at the Music Cottage. Students dress in performance attire and invite relatives and friends. There is a reception following the performance. There is no extra charge for these recitals.
