Mission

The South Pasadena Strings Program offers classes and private lessons to children and adults in guitar, violin, viola, piano, cello, bass, and voice. We also have youth ensembles, including a training choir, a choir, a training orchestra, an elementary orchestra, and two middle school orchestras.

We also have youth ensembles including choirs, a training orchestra and an elementary orchestra.

We also encourage our students to attend concerts and to join our ensembles as soon as they feel ready. The program is well-known for its exciting performance opportunities, from Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm music festivals, to charity fundraisers, to television appearances, to a command performance at New York City's Carnegie Hall. In 2009, we plan to return to Carnegie Hall.

These special events help motivate children to set goals, achieve their personal best, and experience the fun and joy of making beautiful music as part of a team.

Why Children Should Study Music

  • Playing an instrument enhances a child's quality of life socially, emotionally, creatively, and intellectually.
  • Music education leads to a lifelong appreciation of music.
  • Children who participate in music education programs demonstrate improvements in academic performance in areas beyond music.
