Cello Program

The Strings Program takes pride in its outstanding cello staff. The program attracts a high caliber of students, and a high caliber of teachers who want to teach them, from beginner through advanced students.

We start children as young as 4 ½ on cello, in our KinderCello program. Director Susan Pascale takes great care to match each student to the right teacher. "The right fit is important," she notes.

The Strings Program’s philosophy is to place children in groups right away, and to offer them exciting performance opportunities. This helps motivate the child to practice. As soon as the student can hold the instrument and has basic music-reading skills, they are invited to participate in Training Orchestra, which then feeds into the renowned Los Angeles Children’s Orchestra. They are also encouraged to participate in our chamber music program.

When the Children’s Orchestra is preparing for high-level performances, such as television appearances, Carnegie Hall concerts, etc, we have our cello staff run sectionals (as part of the course). Sectionals not only help students develop their technical and musical skills, but also help promote camaraderie and pride among the cello players.

Our cello students also participate in frequent recitals. Our graduates eventually feed into the best high school and college orchestras, including gifted arts high schools and conservatories.

We offer rentals of cellos as small as 1/10th size.
